Meet the Founder
Hi, I am Petra Cubretović, founder of The Sleep Department and How About Sleep.
As a professional and mother, I understand the challenges of working parents and employers—from sleepless nights to the impact on work, career and well-being.
With nearly 2 decades of experience in senior leadership roles and as a Certificed Gentle Sleep Coach®, I know what organizations need to optimally support their employees.
My Mission
I aim to do more than just help children sleep better. I want to
-
Bridge the gap between parents and employers, fostering more support and understanding for these often-unspoken problems of parents with young children.
-
Offer tangible solutions for employers who want to address sleep deprivation – through sleep solutions for your working parents.
The impact of sleep deprivation on working parents and your business
A 2024 report by The Sleep Department, The Hidden Cost of Sleep Deprivation & How to Fix This, highlights the profound effects of sleep deprivation on both employees and employers:
-
70% of working parents report that lack of sleep negatively impacts their work.
-
64% consider reducing their working hours.
-
50% feel unable to pursue career ambitions.
-
21% take sick leave due to exhaustion.
For businesses, these challenges result in an estimated cost of €2,800 per parent annually. In cases of long-term absence or resignation, expenses can exceed €100,000 per employee.
Addressing sleep deprivation isn’t just a wellness initiative, it’s a strategic investment in workforce productivity and retention.
Breaking the Taboo: Sleep Deprivation Is Not Just a Private Problem
Many parents struggle in silence with sleepless nights, early mornings, and constant exhaustion.
Shame or a sense of failure often prevent them from sharing their challenges.
Sleep deprivation is still seen as a private issue—something to be solved at home.
But we believe it shouldn't be. The impact extends to the workplace, and companies have a unique opportunity to support their employees.
-
Only 10% of parents discuss their sleep struggles with a manager.
-
91% would like their employer to help, for example, by financially supporting child sleep coaching.
-
59% of parents prefer 1:1 child sleep coaching to establish healthy sleep habits and restore their family's sleep.
Let's break this taboo and give parents the help they need—good for them, good for employers.
